Kulkarni Statement on Trump’s Call for Ending the ACA with No Plan for Pre-Existing Conditions

Sugar Land, TX — Today, President Trump released a video of his 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl. In the interview, Trump says he hopes that the Supreme Court ends the Affordable Care Act. When asked repeatedly what his plan would be to protect those with pre-existing conditions, he was unable to provide an answer.

Sri Preston Kulkarni issued the following statement:

“Today, the president revealed what many of us have known for a long time now: there is no plan to replace coverage for pre-existing conditions if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. There is no reason for anyone to believe Troy Nehls’ empty promises on health care. While President Trump and Troy Nehls play politics with our health, I am committed to protecting Texans’ health care, lowering the cost of care and prescription drugs, and ensuring that no one has to give up their private insurance if it works for them.”

Sri Preston Kulkarni is the son of an Indian immigrant father and a mother whose family descends from Sam Houston. Kulkarni is a former Foreign Service Officer who served fourteen years overseas in places like Iraq, Russia, and Jerusalem, and as a former Defense, Foreign Policy and Veteran Affairs Advisor to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) before deciding to leave the foreign service and return home to run for Congress in 2018.
